From Mixtapes to Main Stage

It all started with a love for music. As a kid, I was obsessed with collecting cassette tapes and CDs, meticulously curating playlists for others to enjoy. By the time I was 12 or 13, people had begun to appreciate my unique sense of music. But beneath this passion, I was an extremely introverted child. I had opinions, recommendations, and a wealth of knowledge to share, yet my introversion always held me back. Music, however, became my voice—it was my bridge to the world, my way of communicating and connecting with others.

One day, I attended a small party where a DJ was spinning tracks. Watching him work his magic, I was captivated. The energy, the control, the way he made people move—I knew right then that this was what I wanted to do. That moment marked the beginning of my journey.

Life as a middle-class kid pursuing an unconventional career was anything but easy. The early days were rough—I slept on broken beds, lived in a flat without power for two months, went without food for two days, and walked miles after finishing gigs just to get home. I lifted heavy speakers, worked as a laborer for sound vendors just to learn the art, and faced countless rejections. Senior DJs often shooed me away from the console. Touring meant surviving with just two T-shirts and a single pair of jeans across five cities. I have even slept in the basements of nightclubs just to stay afloat. At one point, I worked as a club supervisor just to stay close to the music.

Despite all the hardships, I never gave up. Dropping out of engineering meant I had no backup plan. I had experienced poverty up close, and there was no way I was going back to the life I came from. My only motivation was those 10-15 minutes after my set, when people would come up to me, appreciating my music. In those moments, I felt like I was truly something.

Money was always the biggest challenge, and opportunity was the second. Coming from a city where DJing had no career prospects, my only choice was to move to a bigger city—a decision that drained me financially. I had nowhere to stay and often slept in basements or on the streets. Without money, I needed a job, but no one was willing to give me a chance. I went back to lifting speakers for sound vendors, patiently waiting for an opportunity to help DJs and play whenever I got the chance. Each time I stepped behind the decks, I gave it my all, slowly building a name for myself.

Over time, my hard work paid off. My achievements include releasing a remix of "Sajni Re" from the movie Laapata Ladies, sung by Arijit Singh, under T-Series. I also established my own IP, Desi Dubs, and successfully released two albums under it. Additionally, I co-curated Shor Bazaar and Masala House, some of India's most renowned indie music properties. My journey has led me to become part of one of India's most successful fusion/electronic duos, performing over 200+ shows and sharing the stage with industry giants like Nucleya, Ritviz, Midival Punditz, Marsh, DJ Suketu, Sartek, Flipsyd, Gurbax, and many more.

Looking ahead, my goal is simple yet ambitious—to make more music, play more gigs, take my sound to new cities and new audiences, and create a lasting legacy through my music. I want to leave behind something truly special for people to listen to and remember me by.
